Description
Located off the Old King’s Highway on Cape Cod, this vacation home overlooks the tidal flats of the bay. Two phases of renovation transformed this simple, but dramatically sited, three-level ranch house into a unique expression of the owner’s lifestyle, taking full advantage of the site’s panoramic views.
While its modest exterior retains an understated simplicity, the interior of this shingled cottage has been transformed with a complete rehabilitation. The living room, den, dining room and kitchen on the upper level are unified by a shallow vaulted ceiling pierced by skylight dormers. The casual ambiance of life on the beach is expressed through the use of materials which recall the ubiquitous Cape Cod sand: light colored honed marble tiles, a pine beaded ceiling, maple wood cabinetry and light colored fabrics. A second construction phase carried the interior curves and natural materials to the exterior, with an entry porch, fireplace inglenook addition and a dramatic two-level deck following the path of the summer sun’s arc across the expansive vista.
